Jillian (Jill) Amatt

Full Time Travelling Artist

By pulling the plug on my conventional life back in 2017, I have given myself the space and time needed to really figure out what is important to me, and to cultivate a life around those things.  Through it all, two things have become very apparent to me;  without travelling and having new experiences, I become bored and lethargic. Similarily, without some sort of creative expression, I become bored and depressed.

And so, I wear two hats!  There is Jill the Traveller, and Jill the Artist, combined, they make an exciting person who, after 20 years of trying to live by the status quo, is finally passionate about life again!

Jill the Traveller..........

My partner and I sold all of our posessions in 2017 to seek out a life of adventure and full time travel!  After 2 years of travelling through Central America and the Caribbean, our brand Artistic Voyages was born.

Through this we manage to combine art and travel into one neat package!  Join our newsletter to stay up to date with travel information, mural projects and our vast and wonderful experiences.

Jill the Artist.........

After re-discovering my artistic side at the age of 30, my life has been a bright and exciting tapestry of art.  I am constantly exploring new mediums and I am inspired on a daily basis by the world around me.

My artist story is not your typical one!  Click below to learn all about my journey from not being creative at all, to once again finding my artistic voice, and how it changed my life!

 My Story

I am a lover of life!

My life has been an interesting journey through vast and ever changing landscapes.

As a child I was always interested in the teeniest and tiniest details that nature could provide.  I would sit on my haunches for hours at a time, watching ants crawl to and fro, and I would catch snowflakes on my mittens, trying to get a peek at their extraordinary detail and structure.

At the age of 30, I re-awakened an artistic side of myself that had been shoved down so deep, that it was almost forgotten.  As creativity started to pour out of me again, I started a long climb up to peel back and unleash layers of myself that had been snubbed out, pushed back, and ignored for far too long.

Since that fateful day, back in 2006, when I first held clay in my hands,  I have been on an insatiable creative journey.  My journey has brought me through the explorations of trying many different mediums, and I now understand the constant focus needed for refining my abundance of inspirations into their own pieces of creative expression.

In 2017 my partner and I sold our house, cars, and all of our possessions in our town of Powell River, BC, to set out into the world on a one way ticket.  We flew to Costa Rica on what would become a 2 year journey housesitting and volunteering around Central America and the Caribbean.

Through it all we have learned that our art is our medicine and that our creativity is what is feeding our souls.  Each day we make conscious choices to continue on our path of artistic and creative exploration.

We are constantly inspired by the world that is all around us, and we look forward to a life of adventure and exploring this planet as we continue to see as much of it as we can.

I hope to inspire you to dream big, and then chase your dreams as you once again find joy in your life.  Thanks so much for being a part of my journey!

Travelling

For as long as I can remember travel has been a part of my every waking moment.  As a kid my parents whisked me off to exotic locations around the world, and when I wasn’t travelling, I was home in Canmore, Canada, looking through the atlas and dreaming of far off places.

At the age of 18 I circumnavigated the world on a 188 foot tall ship with an educational program called Class Afloat.  The experiences that me and 50 some other students had on that trip were those that can only be dreamt of by most, and many would feel satisfied that they had seen and done enough.

However, this trip merely scratched the surface of what I knew was possible, and in those moments I declared to myself that travel would always play a central role in my life.

And so, at the age of 40, my partner and I pulled the plug on our conventional life, to head out into the world. We came with no expectations, we only wanted to experience life!  We do not regret our decision for one moment, and we have not been disappointed.
